With the British High Street rapidly changing, now is the time to be an independent business bringing exciting designs to the staid High Street. So what a time to celebrate being independent by winning for the second consecutive year the Muddy Stilettos award for Best Jewellers in Surrey.

Muddy Stilettos are a fantastic social media brand established in November 2012 by journalist Hero Brown. Four years on it can now be found in 21 counties with Surrey being looked after by Amber Evans. Each county celebrates local businesses by holding the annual Muddy Awards with competition categories ranging from the best of women’s fashion and beauty to farm shops and boutique stays, and our category of Best Jewellers.

After winning in 2018 we were nominated for a second year. For an independent retailer this means the world both to the team and the business as a whole. The winners’ ceremony took place at Denbies Wine Estate near Dorking, Surrey. It was an opportunity to celebrate and network with all the businesses who won. Our company directors (Steve & Alix Parsons) and Guildford Store Manager (Stefanie O`Grady) attended and by the looks of the photos they had a great time! Collecting a certificate and badge (look out for these on our shop doors) a feeling of pride is felt within the Simon Pure team.

At Simon Pure we have the charm of being a small business with big ambitions. Designing since 1986, the Simon Pure brand has evolved and become stronger, prouder and still on the British High Street.  As well as our Guildford showroom, we have our workshop and gallery which is based at Smithbook Kilns near Cranleigh. This is the spiritual home of Simon Pure – it is where inspiration and creativity begin, and where the ranges of stunning jewellery are hand crafted. Thank you to everyone who nominated, voted and has supported us over for over 33 years. Let’s see if we can make it to three years in 2020…

It all begins with a sketch…but a design only truly comes to life
at the bench where our creative director Steve & expert
jewellers have been hand crafting this years new designs.
Starting in January Steve turns to his love of the natural world &
everyday objects to inspire new beautiful pieces.

The use of precious & semi-precious stones are also taken into
account during the process with our directors sourcing only the
most stunning of stones , some of which are specifically
designed around to create a unique piece of jewellery.

When an original design is complete which is called the master
it then begins it’s journey. It’s cast by one of our partners &
from here we’re ready to start making the finished pieces.
This is when our workshop team come into their own with
Sally, Stuart, David & Head Goldsmith Kevin hand-finishing each piece.

Intricate details from polishing the cast to carefully hand
setting stones , no day is the same at our Cranleigh workshop.

At the end of this each piece is checked to make sure it meets
the highest of standards & is ready for it’s new owner.

Beauty is key to us here at Simon Pure & ensuring that when
you find your perfect piece of jewellery you can express yourself
or recall a fond memory. After all at Simon Pure , Its not just
about the jewellery but being part of our story.

Our Simon Pure Guildford boutique

It`s officially Spring! For many of us this is a time for an overhaul of our wardrobes or interiors and our Guildford boutique window is no exception.

Spring time is easily one of the most romantic seasons of the year with beautiful pastel tones and flowers starting to bloom inspiring this year`s floral extravaganza window display.
The flower wall and hanging floral spheres have dominated the wedding world and for good reason; they are stunning.

It felt only natural to create our very own hand crafted versions here at Simon Pure.

Jumping into the planning process I measured out where these would feature in store and decided it would be best to create a wall panel for the side window leaving the flower spheres to hang in the very front. Using rectangle oasis blocks I fashioned a wall panel which would then be used as the flower wall, the remaining blocks would be used as toppers for our shelves within the store and front window.

Oasis had become a key component for crafting the displays and I had purchased spheres from a craft supplier. I attached ribbon in order to have these suspended from the ceiling, using hot glue and pins which gives a sturdy and strong fitting in order for this to hang over a period of time.
Once all of the background work had been completed the fun could begin with cutting faux flowers from their stems. I had chosen Peony`s, roses, hydrangeas and other soft botanical forms in tones of pastel pink, soft ivory and other dreamy colours. I firstly started creating the flower wall by selecting the larger flowers heads such as the hydrangeas as a base layer and building it up gradually.
Using the small roses, green foliage and peony flowers I fixed together a compact flower wall covering the front, tops and sides to give a heavenly backdrop to our blue topaz and aquamarine Rockstar range.

With all of the floral features installed into the windows I have carried on the theme with our write ups that we produce for our ranges on display. Pink peony`s adorn the write ups adding colour to the shelves along with creating lining sheets made from tracing paper. These sheets I have added the pink peony image and used as a background colour keeping the floral theme running throughout the store, This was added to our side window glass to cover the back of the flower wall and back display cabinet mirrors.
I wanted to carry this floral theme around the whole store in a subtle way and the peony lined paper was the perfect solution.

As a whole the store is full in bloom and creates an enchanting wedding display. Set against the crisp white display stands complementing our stunning new wedding bands and other in house designed jewellery.

Simon Pure Purity Collection morganite purple sapphire and diamond rings

Meet the Purity! One of our most beloved engagement rings, featuring a solitaire diamond on a throne of precious metal. Our original design has been holding its own on Simon Pure’s shelves for approximately eight years, until its multi stone sisters came out at the beginning of 2016.

The Purity collection combines everything we love in contemporary engagement design – a nice, open setting for lots of light, a minimal, four-claw setting holding each stone, and bespoke craftsmanship with meticulous attention to detail.

The Seven Stone Purity won our Proposal competition, and it’s only got better from there. Altering the setting to hold seven stones, while keeping the intricate setting, gave the design an Art Deco feel. From here, we’ve played with stones and metals, giving the Seven Stone Purity a unique look every single time.

The newest member of our Purity family is the Oval Seven Stone. These come as engagement rings or dramatic cocktail rings – we are particularly in love with this special cut lilac sapphire. The romantic hues and icy sparkle are enough to give morganite a run for its money! Placing an oval cut stone in the centre elongates the design, making the ring look larger without any overbearing features.

Pastel perfection! morganite and purple sapphire Purity

Over the last two years, we’ve developed a soft spot for this gorgeous beryl: morganite. Perfectly pink, radiantly sparkly, the stone compliments all precious metals, from 9ct rose gold to platinum. We’ve set this morganite in our cushion cut Seven Stone cocktail ring, and its slightly lavender hue gives it a cooler tone, complimenting its white gold setting.

But the Purity is not just for engagement rings! We’ve also set more generously sized cushion cut semi precious stones in the Purity, making it perfect for a statement cocktail ring. Currently available in morganite, AAA tanzanite and a zesty peridot, you can choose your favourite shade to sit proudly on this diamond encrusted design.

What started as a simple solitaire has now created generations of unique designs. Now created for all occasions, whether it’s an anniversary, a special event or a celebration, we’d love to hear your ideas on how to make the Purity your own.

It’s Nearly The Big Day!

Buying something special for somebody you care about is hard – but sometimes buying for yourself is even harder!

Often, a wedding band is the first item of jewellery you purchase for yourself to wear every day. Surprisingly, this is normally more difficult than it is for those who wear jewellery regularly, as those who wear a lot of jewellery already have a ‘style’ to base their purchases around.

Where to start?

If you wear a watch, its style might prove a useful guide, reflecting the type of ring you should purchase. If you have a chunky, oversized, and stainless steel sports watch, for instance, a large and more square cut ring could compliment it superbly. A modern watch will suit a more modern design, whereas something minimal and classic will ideally be paired with a similarly understated ring.

Even matching the finish of your wedding band to your watch can make it feel much more natural, and almost all of our rings can be finished in a number of subtle textures. Over time, all finishes will tone down and become less prominent. A lot of people find rings with a polished finish to be very glossy-looking at first, and feel they look a little too ‘bling.’ With wear, however, they do become less shiny and have an (ever so slightly) more matte appearance. Similarly, matte finishes also wear, and appear fractionally more polished. All finishes can be returned to their original texture after a short trip to the workshop.

Trying something new!

When shopping for their wedding bands, many understandably worry about comfort – wearing a ring for the first time can feel unnatural at first. But once you find the right style and size for you, it’ll only take a few days wear for you to forget that it’s even on! We specially measure your finger using a selection of different size gauges to get the perfect fit, so all you need to think about is the style and shape, of which there are a variety to choose from.

Every so often, we get a brave chap who comes in asking for ‘something a bit different’ – not the typical courted 18ct yellow gold number you remember your parents sporting. You’ve come to the right place! We have a selection of bi-colour rings that have decidedly come back into fashion – our matte  titanium and gold collection is subtle and modern. Titanium is an incredibly strong metal, normally designed with a matte finish to accentuate its dark grey colour. As it’s not considered to be a ‘precious metal’, but an industrial metal, it is also incredibly cost effective (making it even more attractive!)

We offer our wedding bands in white gold, yellow gold, platinum, palladium and titanium. White gold will take more maintenance – every once in a while you will need to get your ring re-rhodium plated to keep up its white appearance. Un-rhodiumed white gold has a yellow hue. Palladium is in the same family as platinum, and is a naturally white metal and very hard wearing.

With such a wide variety of wedding bands to chose from, all it takes is some time to keep trying on bands, allowing you to identify the perfect style. The more you try on, the easier it will become to imagine yourself wearing your ideal wedding band. Give yourself a good 2-3 months before the wedding to begin shopping, as a freshly-made wedding ring will take 4-6 weeks. Before you know it, you’ll have a wedding ring that you’ll be admiring for many years to come!
